Equine Science
This course is designed to introduce students to a broad spectrum of topics in Equine Science and establish a solid foundation of general horse knowledge. The course will include discussions on the development, domestication, use of the horse, economic impact, and future trends of the horse industry. Student will be presented with the opportunity to become familiar with equine disciplines, breeds, basic anatomy, conformation, and gaits. Additional topics to be presented include principles of horsemanship, teeth, age determination, hoof anatomy, and care. Lectures on equine behavior and selection will conclude the course. Instruction in Leadership through the FFA and Supervised Agriculture Experience (SAE) programs are an integral part of instruction.
